I'm weird, okay?

I don't buy cars based on price. I buy them based on excellence. The 335i, RS4 and M5 are, IMO, equally excellent.

I'm not just comparing price alone....how about function, and equally excellent?? Not IMO, how is a 335 in any way shape or form equal to a RS4....and how is either one equal to a M5? These rides have nothing in common: one has twin turbos and is RWD, the other has AWD and a V8, the latter has a V10 and RWD......wait..I got it, they all have 4 doors

Well, I guess this list is just odd:

•*335xi coupe
•*535xi sedan
•*M3 coupe
•*M5
•*S5
•*S6
•*S8
•*RS4

Maybe this list would have made more sense:

•*335xi coupe by itself or maybe against the M3

Then..

S5/RS4/M3

or

S6/S8/M5

And if I was looking at these cars, I'd also be looking at the MB S63AMG.

That's just me...what do I know.

I was more confused by the "New winter car" heading and seeing M3/M5 make the list.

But, hey, we all have different opinions of what consitutes a winter car or winter beater.

Sounds like you got a lot of (fun) test driving to do.

I'm not talking about whether or not any of these cars compete.

I'm talking about how good they are... taken on their own. The 335i is a masterpiece. So is the RS4. So is the M5. Of course they don't compete.

But anyway, in a strange twist I'm not even sure if I'm getting a winter car any more. Time will tell. I hope I end up with an R8.

Get the 535xi sedan or 535xi sports wagon if you need cargo room.

But really, if you don't need AWD just buy the rear-wheel drive BMWs and stick snow tires on them.

What car, you ask?

Well, my new winter car, of course. My son--assuming he earns it--will be getting what is probably the best first car ever, my A3. That leaves me with a void next to my S4 just aching to be filled. I am currently split between Audis and Bimmers:

•*335xi coupe
•*535xi sedan
•*M3 coupe
•*M5
•*S5
•*S6
•*S8
•*RS4

Space is not an absolute necessity, as made obvious by the 335xi, M3, S5 and RS4 on this list. However, it would be nice. I have driven only one of the cars on this list so far (535xi), and it was excellent, as are the other three BMWs. But Audis continue to seduce me. All four I mentioned have stunning styling, perfect engines and gorgeous interiors. So I am torn.

I will be driving these things in the Spring. Will the M3 be out by then? If not, I think I can survive without testing it... maybe.

Suggestions?
Seems like you already have a winter car with the X and need another summer car

I would not buy any of those cars without waiting to drive the new M3 first if you can hold out that long.

Nice predicament to be in and nice stable

sports car and winter car are not interchangeable terms. If they were, you could easily get an all-wheel drive Diablo VT
