Convertible M5
Are M5's sold anywhere in the world as a convertible? If so, can it be ordered in the U.S.? I've never seen one so I'm really at a loss here. I've called a couple of places that customize cars that say it's no problem for them to do the work, however, I'd like to go the special order route if possible. Any ideas???

We told each child that they had thier choice of cars once they are able to drive. The CEO and I are not willing to go back on our word. M5 overkill? Not sure, but a 530 would not even come close as an alternative.

Yes, we know the M5 is a four door. What does that have to do with anything? Four door converts use to be common place in the U.S. and better engineering makes it 'easy' to do now, just not a common desire anymore. Anyway, many good custom shops do this type of thing. Doesen't seem like I'm going to get a lot of help here, so custom shop here I come.

Regardless of ability to puchase such a machine, there is no such thing as a 16 year old who should be driving an M5 - or any other excessively powerful car. Did you just take out a huge life ins. policy on her and her friends? I think you're just asking for trouble....

Nowhere are they offered as convertible. But the M6 is.
My 2 cents; As a father, interested in safety of my kids, I would not buy a M5 or M6 for a 16 year old no matter how much money I have. I have seen tons of pics in last year of M5/M6/lambos/ ferraris totalled and where the occupants lost their lives. I would start with a 530 or 540 and send the kid to Performance driving school. What do they say - learn to walk before you run.
