Thanks LeMans. She actually will be attending the performance driving school in addition to 'regular' drivers ed. Any car is/can be a weapon and I've seen all sorts of pics of the accidents. My CEO did her residency in an emergency room and we know all to well the dangers of driving any car.

A teen was recently killed driving a Honda Civic at estimated 102mph on a canyon road. Personally I don't feel the likelihood of poor driving and decisions escalate with a car. But I respect your and everyone else’s opinion.

I don't care how many driving schools you go to, at 16 you do not have the "behind the wheel" experience. An M5 is too much car for some people twice that age.
On a side note, a yellow convertible M5 won't have much of a resale value. The conversion needs to be really well too, that's a lot of structure being removed. Is there some type of roll-over protection that can be installed?
In regards to that 102MPH Civic crash....the M5 can get out from under you a lot quicker than most Civics.
In regards to the driving school, I don't know your kids so this may not be true, but how many 16 year olds actually pay full attention while driving, especially if they're with friends?
Way too many issues to consider for me to be comfortable handing the keys of an M5 over to my 16 year old.
I agree that a lower 5 series would be a better start.
But, that's just my .02. Either way, your kids have great parents to even make the offer....

Glad your Daughter is going to "dodge'EmCar" school and hope
she drives safely; getting through the first few years, behind
the wheel, is the toughest part...

as for the M5 Cabrio Conversion, maybe a high safety rated
Japanese build sedan instead, a big donation to a "local" fave charity
with the "diff", and a lecture on real life, for your D.

But, your dough and daughter.

Something doesn't go around here. Why would your daughter even want a M5? If she wants it yellow and she wants it convertible then she obviously doesn't "get" what the M5 is all about. Sounds like any other yellow convertible would equally fit the bill.

I wonder how many of her friends parents would let their kids ride with her. I know I wouldn't let my daughter ride with a 16 year old driving a M5. Hell, I probably wouldn't let her ride with any 16 year old unaccompanied by an adult regardless of the vehicle. My 0.02.

Four door converts use to be common place in the U.S. and better engineering makes it 'easy' to do now, just not a common desire anymore. Anyway, many good custom shops do this type of thing. Doesen't seem like I'm going to get a lot of help here, so custom shop here I come.
By 'used to be' I assume you mean 1961. Hmmm, 45 years ago. Were you buying cars then? I thought that the Lincoln was the last one, and it was by no means common-place. You could go back to the thirties, and Duesenberg, if you like. They weren't common-place either, though. Sure you don't mean four seater, not four door?

It would be much easier to do it now if cars had ladder frames, like they did in 1961. Guess you could get a custom shop to install one under an M5. May need a V12 to haul around all the extra weight, though.

So, the idea is ludicrous, as is the idea of a 16 year old driving an M5, no matter how much money her parents want to spend on her whims, and how many performance driving schools she attends.

So, I am with several of the above posters.
