Inflation and BMW Pricing Opinions
Meiac09 and I were talking about how much our lively (monopolistic) dining service company, Aramark, likes to charge for food that was collected from the rejects bin at Walmart Supercentre and discarded leftovers at the market. I paid $13,47 for lunch and received a chicken salad and some sushi (no drink).
A 16 ounce fruit cup used to cost $3,69 last year, but now has been increased to $4,09. So according to this rate, our inflation rate should be 11%. What would our world be like if the actual rate of inflation was 11%? For starters, let's consider the base price of a 2009 325i sedan, which is currently $34.975 inclusive destination fee. So with an 11% adjustment, the price should actually be $38.825. Sounds about right. Now obviously, because we can't just account for the base price alone, and there are signficant overhead costs that have to be taken into account. Therefore, I've devised a fair way to price options in order to maintain investor profitability while taking advantage of the demand/supply curve. 6-speed manual: Standard 6-speed Steptronic Automatic: $2000 Metallic paint: $575 Cloth interior: Standard Leatherette interior: $525 Leather interior: $1400 Heated seats: $500 Sport seats: $750 Lumbar support: $350 Centre armrest: Standard Sliding front armrest: $150 Multi-function steering wheel: Standard Rain sensor incl. automatic headlamps: $250 Bi-xenon headlamps: $750 (incl. headlamp washers) Adaptive headlamps: $250 Dynamic Cruise control: $250 Front foglamps: $250 Rear foglamps: Standard Premium package: $2000 (electric seats, moonroof, rain sensor) Sport Package: $1800 Cold Weather Package: $1000 Apperance package: $4320 (incl. 19" wheels, Automatic gearbox, leather seats, and heated seats) Bluetooth: $500 BMW Professional Radio: $375 BMW Assist: $325 Hi-Fi Speaker system: $700 Auto-dimming mirrors package: $650 (incl folding mirrors) PDC Front/rear: $500 Electric moonroof: $1000 Logic7 Sound system: $1400 Business Sat Nav: $1500 Professional Sat Nav: $2100 The prices are fair, based on how much equipment average folks seem to need/use. It doesn't penalise those who don't want certain items like a moonroof or electric seats. It permits flexibility to choose what you need without getting anything you don't want. After all, if value for money is important, why not buy a Hyundai instead? Last edited by AzNMpower32; 02-02-2009 at 05:05 PM. |
