Arrow BMW i3 spyshots

Spy photographer managed to capture the i3 prototype in snowy Sweden, where BMW TV was filming the car, meaning we can soon see the official clip about the i3.

Just like the i8, the i3 features an aluminium chassis and the passenger cell, that consists of high-strength but extremely lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic.

Power is expected to come from a 150-170bhp electric motor, that offers a maximum range of up to 124 miles. The rear-mounted engine sends power to the rear wheels and the top speed is 90-95mph.

A range-extending version with a small petrol motor is also planned, that will charge the battery pack for even greater range.

The i3 will go on sale in 2013, and BMW plans to sell at least 30,000 units a year. Prices are expected to start from £35,000.
