Carbon problems with BMW
This seems to be more of a problem with turbo's . N54 carbon buildup - big problem?

Start engine, find an open road, press gas pedal to floor, hold and repeat.

May be more of a problem due to direct injection than with turbochargers, since the fuel detergents don't get to the intake ports.
I have always made sure to get the engine up to temperature, and then use the upper rev ranges every now and then. Used to be called an Italian tune up. I never had a problem with carbon buildup with my 2008, but that is a sample of one.

Did you read the link running at high rpm might help prevent it but It will not cure it.

Depends how bad the carbon build up is.
What it won't cure is the tendency to carbon up. What it can fix is burning off the carbon that has built up.
