Pulled the trigger on a 2016 X5M

Well, I can now legitimately re-join the discussions here at Xoutpost.com
Last week, I placed an order for a new 2016 BMW X5M.
I am expecting delivery in early June.

The lease on my 2014 BMW M6 Coupe expires in early June so I had to figure out what to replace it with. My 2007 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG now has approx.. 102,000 miles on it and has started to have some serious, (i.e. expensive…) mechanical issues, even though the body and interior are in excellent shape. I will most likely sell it this fall. I test drove the new 2016 M-B GLE63s SUV and the Porsche Cayenne, but ultimately liked the BMW X5M the best. Comparably equipped, the BMW is by far the better deal and it also out accelerates the other two.

My new X5M will be Silverstone Metallic on the exterior and Mugello Red Full Merino Leather interior with carbon fiber trim. My selected options include:

- 21” Style 612M wheels w/ Michelin Pilot Super Sport non run-flat tires
- Driver Assistance Plus
- Executive Package
- Parking Assistant
- Smartphone Integration
- Bang & Olufsen Sound System
- M Performance Carbon Fiber trim for center console and shifter knob
- M Performance Illuminated Door Sills

I have also ordered the BMW 20” Winter Wheel/Tire Package for the X5M (F85), since I know I will need them beginning this winter and from reading threads on this topic, understand that the supply has been limited historically and wanted to ensure that I had a set for when I do the switch after Thanksgiving.

Essentially, I will be replacing two vehicles: the M6 coupe and the ML63 AMG, with one vehicle. I do not want to sacrifice the wonderful grin-inducing aural sound or the high-performance of the twin turbo or naturally aspirated engines in my other vehicles. I also want to have the practicality of a vehicle that can seat 4 adults comfortably, has all-wheel drive, a necessity for us drivers in the Northeast US, as well as decent cargo capacity, measured in both cubic feet and clear vertical dimension. I appreciate the higher seating position and the better visibility from the cockpit of a SUV. But alas, IMHO, the M6 is an exquisitely beautiful automobile that will be missed, but I am excited to be getting back into an X5. This X5M will be my third X5, the first two being V-8’s from 2001 and 2004, both with the aero-body kits. They were fun and comfortable vehicles that pre-dated the subsequent M-versions. I switched to the ML63 AMG in 2007 since at that point BMW had yet to release their X5M and have enjoyed that vehicle as well.

I look forward to participating in discussions on various X5M topics and issues and will probably have a number of questions for all of you to tap into and learn from your experiences and expertise.
Stay tuned.
