How's the backup camera on the M?

Compared to the regular X5. Thanks

I'm going to piggyback on this thread. The 2010 X6 comes with a rear view camera with top view. Is it the same camera that the ///Ms have?

The backup camera is great - full contrast/brightness control. Very clear. Works pretty well in low light conditions too.

Edit - the backup camera on the '07 X5 4.8 was not nearly as clear. I remember reading a lot of bad reviews.

Yes, the top-down view is the same as the X6.. It's cool, but in practice, I really don't see much of a use for the sides.

You can toggle between the backup and top-down when you're in 'R' and/or if you press the proximity button.

Speaking of, remember that you still have front and rear proximity that shows up in the split screen next to the backup camera.

It's real good. Top view is for attaching tow hitch and can't really think of any other practical operation.

How about when parking next to a curb? Isn't the top down view useful for that?

Could be!

Where I live, there isn't a common need for parallel parking.

The backup camera at night is terrific. The old iDive camera was total crap in comparison. You can actually see pretty good detail when the reverse lights kick in.

My '08 X5's camera was unusable at night when backing up. One of the things I hated about it.
