So tonight I tried to program the current hitch module using Autologic (after market bmw programming). No luck. I was about to get hitch view in the backup camera. I have a couple other things to try to get the module working but I heard today that even older E70 X5's (2007 to 2009) now have the software issue where the brake lights dont work.

Yeah, I never understood why people ruin an awesome car with cheap looking rubber flaps...that is what 3M film is for.

Given that he has a hitch installed, he would have to put that 3M film all over the front of his boat or whatever he is towing, as it will get as marked up as the aprons on the X5M do. 3M doesn't appear to have solved the paint damage issues on many other X5Ms either.

I don't mind mudflaps, in general. If you want tires that wide, the flaps have to be that wide.
