It's a lot quicker than it feels (and it still feels very quick).

Would blow away the 750i.

I used to have a C5 corvette that 'felt faster' than my C6 Z06 - because it wasn't as refined/noise-insulated/etc... LOL

it feels slow because the x5 defies the laws of physics with it's speed and handling

I feel the X5M is two different "cars". With M-mode off and in normal transmission the X5M drives very civilized. Difficult to get any speed out of it because the transmission is always up shifting for fuel economy. You really have to stomp on the pedal to get it to down shift three gears to get the speed.
Turn on M and put it sport. It will be fast! I feel it is a little sneaky fast. You just don't recognize how fast you are going. Look down and you are doing 130 at the end of the on ramp trying to merge into traffic. Not sure if it is because it is smooth with its power delivery or because you are sitting up higher or what.

I haven't recieved my 2011 yet, but I did a long test drive of a 2010. I agree that in normal drive mode it basically feels like the 4.8i (probably a bit faster than that obviously). In M-mode with transmission in sport, it's a different beast though. I don't mind it being "slow" in regular drive mode because on the highway and cruising around you sometimes want better fuel economy than power...at least I do.

If you want the feeling of really moving fast though, a light weight car that's low to the ground is what gives the most. Not a 5k pound SUV! Like the post above me says, just look down at your speedo if you don't think you are moving fast and be prepared to be surprised!

I think you guys got it all wrong, the OP was "NOT impressed with the LACK of power" which means he really was impressed with the power (double negative)

Yesterday I tried the 0 - 120 on the on ramp test.

My M passed and got extra credit.

I had to read it three times and then draw out a chart. Then I picked the opposite of what he wrote in the title.

My spelling sucks so I didn't want to make any comments.

I was under the impression that pressing the "M" button made no difference to your acceleration, but rather, simply accentuated the throttle response??

I think that if you floor the car in "M" mode, it will feel faster, but actual acceleration times will be the same, no???

That's how it works in the M3, anyway...

No facts to back this theory up but in my opinion it should not even be a question. Mine is awesome but in no way feels like 550hp. Maybe my expectations were a little high for 100k and 550hp?
The official data delivered by BMW:

0-100 k/ph
750i = 5,2 sec.
X5M = 4.7 sec.

Which car seems to be faster in acceleration...

Believe me, the X5M eats the 750i for lunch

now i know what the claims are on both vehicles and i sure aint knocking my X M. and im not in any way, shape or form saying that mine is anything resembling slow. but not using launch control(mines not broke in yet) my 750 felt just as strong. and my thought to start with was simply that 555hp should not have even been comparable in any way to my 750.
