iPhone and the X5M
And I paid the $$$ for the iPhone/iPod "kit". Basically $400.00 for a wire. Guess what, it won't charge my iPhone.... So, I ask BMW about it.. it should work they say... but it doesn't... Well maybe a new wire they say, they give me a new wire.. No charging... So, I buy the $20.00 adapter at the Apple store.. No charging... So, I look on the EAS site, I see a wire that says it will charge the iPhone. I call them and ask... ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE it will charge my iPhone 3GS when plugged into my X5M... Yes the guy says, I have one it works fine.. I pay the $65.00 for the new "sure to work" wire.. It comes today... Guess what... It doesn't work, no charging... (it's the same wire I already have)... It's going back on Monday... So, does anyone have any idea if this $400.00 option will ever work in the $80+K car? Is there any way to get my iPhone 3GS to charge using system in the car??? Thanks; Signed... frustrated in San Diego... |

Dwill,
If you have the 6FL option, what you need is the latest 'Y' cable, part#61120440812. It superceded part# 61120440796 late 2009. RealOEM.com BMW E70 X5 3.5d Cable adapter for Apple iPod

I'm guessing by "wire" you mean 'new Y cable'?
If the latest cable doesn't work then a technician will need to actually do some good ol' fashioned 'troubleshooting': find out why there isnt charging voltage on the right pin of the cable. There may be a defect somewhere. My X didn't cost 80k+ and my 3GS charges well... as does my wifes 3G. Perhaps that is the problem?

The parts advisor at my dealer also has no clue - I do my own research now rather than relying on parts advisor for accurate info... and their meant to be the experts not us!

Seems the parts guys think it's the same wire with a "new" part number. |

Don't mess about with bits of wire, get the OEM hangup cup and you just click the iphone in and you have charging, OS antenna and full music control on iDrive.
