****NWS****2012 JGC SRT8 Benchmark: X5M

Target seems clear...

If the X5M is in it's cross hairs, this upgrade has it's work cut out for itself...in comparison to it's predecessor. On the upside, i believe i saw the entry level V8 on the road recently and it looked better than i expected.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
It should be able to match or squeak by the M/// in a straight line, that's the one thing American V8's are good for. But as far as the handling the road course, good luck there buddies.

Will be cool, and quick, but it's a completely different demographic.

Stands to reason that BMW will up the HP on the X5 & X6///M to > 600bhp based mostly on the Cayenne Turbo/S.

BMW might want to consider putting the X's on a diet in any event.

Agreed...the weight reduction on the Pepper TT is quite impressive and imo, the only current advantage over the XM's. The X6' ass didn't take as long to win me over as the Pepper's

The SRT8 def' has a different demo in general...however, although i still favor an X6 M, when a client tossed me the keys to his SRT8 TT Hennessey stroker...

I've always liked those SRT8's, and those center exhaust always looked cool on it. Just like mentioned in the article, I wonder what will happen to them if it comes equipped with a hitch now. It doesn't look hugely different outside, just the newer Cherokee headlights. While it won't handle the way the X5///M does, it's be far less to maintain and modify...tradeoffs.

A BMW mechanic and you didn't even put the /// marks in the right place Hopefully the images below will serve to reinforce your memory in the near future

James...My office environment is def' much more 'laxed than most...but perhaps you should add a NWS in the subject line for those in a more conservative environment.

Not my thread to edit the title, and shouldn't we all be working vs browsing Xoutpost anyways Sorry, it was more for fun...I wasn't considering people actually at look here during working hours.

Not the thread title...but your post title. At least it will be visible before scrolling further down.

Oh and there are perks to being your own boss

Edit, but it wouldn't let me put in a smiley. I use the thumbwheel, so I scroll so fast sometimes it'd already be too late, plus I never read the titles in between the posts anyways, just the posts themselves.

I agree

The next gen X5 will be much lighter.
The V8 engine in X5 M is very down tuned. It is capable of lot more...we will see the engine in the new M5.
