I actually ordered the spare tire option from the factory, but the dealership screwed up and did not get the option. They were also completely clueless as to what needed to be ordered for a complete kit, so I ended up compiling a list of part numbers and giving it to them so they can order it. For some reason I cannot post the list here (getting an error), but you can view it in this thread:

X5M spare tire kit part numbers validation - XBimmers.com | BMW X6 Forum X5 Forum

It is important to know that when you order the spare tire option, the compartment underneath the trunk floor contains some sort of the mount that the tire attaches to. If the option is no ordered, you get a carpeted compartment (which can still fit the tire), but it will not be attached to anything. I am going to secure mine with some sort of padding so it does not shift around.

Thanks very much for the info. For a cost of $822 I think I will spend that amount on a new set of Conti DWS and carry with me an air compressor and a tire plug/repair kit.

I know what you mean about the cost and I actually swapped my stock RFTs for a set of Continentals, but tire sealant + compressor won't help you if the tire sidewall is damaged or if the tire comes off the rim, or if your rim is bent or cracked. If one of the above happens and you happen to be in the middle of nowhere, especially if its late, you'll have a lot of fun waiting for service. And sometimes you don't even have to be in the middle of nowhere. I once spent almost two hours waiting for a BMW roadside assistance at 8AM on Tuesday morning, while being a few miles away from BMW of Manhattan (one of the biggest dealerships in US). They claimed they had a lot of calls and traffic was crazy.

As far as I am concerned, its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Mine was only total about $500. I bought the rim through my dealer for $350, they matched the lowest online price I found, I believe it was getbmwparts.com, then the tire from tire rack. You have to call and get the quote as the spare tire is not listed online. Sorry I dont have the tire size off the top of my head and im not driving my X5M right now but it was a 19" 155 something something Continental. It was about $130 then mounting was $15 at the dealer. I had the jack and lug wrench from my previous X5 but I suppose you could pick this up at Sears for $50 tops. Well worth the saftey net considering the price of the truck.

waiting for a quote on the rim from Tischer. will ask tire rack about the tire. it's continental 155/80/R19. MBenz uses the exact same size tire for spare.
the jack and wrench can be bought else where for a fraction of dealer cost.
thanks for the info guys.

I'm not showing the emergency wheel as available in the states, but I am seeing quantity in Europe which I can have brought over. I have the wheel available HERE but please note due to it only being available in Europe the estimated ship times on our site are incorrect, in reality it is a 4 to 7 week part. The tire (36120418846) is no longer available in the state or in Europe from BMW.

It depends on where in Canada and the shipping method of choice, I'll shoot you a PM with more information.

Guys thanks for your help. Got the emergency kit and wheel. Still carry air compressor and tire repair kit in the car but with a spare wheel I feel more confident now.
