performance numbers

I was up early this morning an decided to take advantage of the lack of traffic and the somewhat cooler temps.

I hooked up a Passport GT Timer GT2 and hit a local on ramp. I am not sure how I should feel about the results.

i was only able to make two passes. The best was:
0-60 4.23
1/4 [email protected]

The Motor Trend article claimed 0-60 in 4 flat and 12.5 1/4.
Temps was 72 and humidity was 68%
and I had a full tank of gas. Pus I do not know how much error there is in the Passport timer??

Maybe with a 1/8 of a tank and cooler temps, it can do the 4 flat and 1/4 in 12.50? Tank holds 22.5 gallons. and at around 6lbs per gallon. So knock another 100+ lbs off for a low tank.
It did pull .8 Gs on the LC off the line.

What kind of results have you guys had?

Those are good numbers. Did you use launch control? Keep in mind many magazines use a 1 foot rollout, so your 0-60 time would be pretty close to 4 seconds flat using that same method. Going with a 1/4 tank of gas would definitely net you a tenth or two in both results.

12.7 is higher than the numbers ive seen. i have a friend who runs 12.7s at the track and i beat him in anyway you could race someone. the weather can make or break a good drag run

I wanted a few baseline runs before the ESS tune arrives.
I think it has a 12.5 in cooler weather with low gas.
I will try again before it arrives and see what I can get

Weather and density altitude will play a roll in you times even though you are turboed, so numbers will vary for different locations.

I have managed a dozen or so 12.80's a few low 12.7's, (2) 12.60's and a 12.58 on my 19" winter tires. The 12.6 & 12.58 were with Launch Control.

My track elevation is 2200 ft and density altitude usually runs 3000-5000ft = bad air.

Yeah, the ramp slopes slightly downward. But I go to the highway level when I stop. It is a spot I have used to test 1/4 performance for many years. It is concrete so the traction is good(not that it matters with these trucks) and there is plenty of runoff. But you need a clear road so super early in the AM seems best.

I notice that with the LC there is a split second delay when letting the brake go. I have driven turbo cars before and when you "powerbarke" them the boost builds and builds, untill the tires spin or the brakes cannot hold it anymore. But they always leave hard when you let the brake go. Because the boost is built up. What is with the delay on these trucks? It is a split second. It reminds me how my E46 M3 used to be. I would dump the clutch and it would just have a split second lag. Until the clutch delay vave was removed. But this truck is an auto. Infact the only M vehicle to ever come with a automatic tranny. and with a pair of turbos, it should build boost and leave hard. Is there some sort of safety device to protect the driveline when you use the LC?

I came home early this morning from a poker game.
I was driving my E63 and had my Passport Timer with me.
I hit the same highway.
Fuel was on Reserve.

I launched it the best way possible. DSC off. Air suspension fully up. Comfort stiffness, sport mode. let the car shift in its own.
No matter how I left it roasted the tires. to the point I would leave a cloud of tire smoke behind me. i tried powerbraking it, I tried flat punching it. I tried feathering. No dice.
and with the tranny in that car, it will upshift when it spins and when it finally is hooked the gear is way too high and it bogs
But even with all that it still ran a best of:
0-60 4.62
1/4 12.80@116
with a set of drag radial I think the E can go a bottom 12. I though the X5 would be a good substitute. But I guess not. You cannot beat a better power to weight ratio!
I just might have to keep her.

Drag radials on the E63 to make it faster than the X5M? Is this just for a track day or do you plan to leave them on? That would make it a bit tough to drive on the street, and seems a bit out of character for that car IMO. Why not get a dedicated sports car to complement your X5M instead? The E63 is a big heavy car, and I'm not sure it handles as well as the X5. There are lots of other options out there...
