2012 Quirks

Couple of odd things about my '12 compared to my '08:

- The iPod connection cuts out randomly and then resets after a few seconds. This happens a couple of times a day.

- The maps are less up-to-date than my '08. My street, which was put in around 2003, has the wrong (old) name and cannot be located...yet it was there on my '08.

- Accessing an alphabetical song or album list is more difficult on the new version of idrive. I've had to resort to creating a separate playlist of my favorites in order to get a comprehensive alphabetical list. Why no voice commands to pull up songs or artists like other cars have?

- Comfort access is nice, but it's tricky to wash your car if the key is in your pocket. The handles are so sensitive that the water hitting them constantly locks and unlocks the doors until I get fed up and put the key inside.

- Smartphone integration, to me, is a total waste. Not only do you have to get a separate bracket for your phone, but it really adds nothing and takes up much of the console space.

- I have daytime running lights off, but I still find that the lights are frequently on during the day no matter how bright it is outside.

- Funny sport mode gear shifts as I've posted about previously.

These are of course just a few minor annoyances...overall the M is much, much better than the previous 4.8 I had (and loved), but it does have some funny things. Anything else you have noticed?

I'll just chime in on the daytime running lights... the DRL should be the angel eyes. And yes on my 2010, the regular automatic headlights do come on at some random times, even when it's completely sunny out. But, I leave my DRLs on all the time, because I like how the angel eyes look.
