I just started getting the same message. It's going into the shop again tomorrow.

I checked to make sure the flaps in the exhaust were still opening and closing and I saw they were open with the car in park and closed with the engine off.

I haven't seen anyone else post about a problem like this but thought I would ask.

2. At cold start-up, the exhaust rattles and sounds like there's some loose metal in it.

3. When I park and turn off the car it makes a loud squeak noise. Kinda like what you would hear when you park on a hill and set the parking brake then the car jerks back a little. However, this happens almost every time I turn the car off even though it is parked in a flat garage. Is this normal?

4. I have a very intermittent high pitch whistle type sound. I have tried everything to make it happen but it's completely random. I think it's usually at slower speeds and sometimes even when I am at a stop. I know it's never going to make the sound when I happen to take it in for service, so this is another one of those quirks I have given up on but does anyone else have something similar?

Thanks!
Sorry it's taken me so long, but I'll post what the dealer fixed/replaced in case others might have similar problems.

#2 and 3, were both fixed by replacing the entire exhaust. Apparently there was a leaking vacuum hose or something that caused the rattling as well as the squeak noise when I turned the car off. Got a brand new exahust.

It did not fix the lack of power I was experiencing. And after driving it for a few weeks, I noticed there was an excessive amount of carbon soot buildup on only the left side exhaust. Took it back to the dealer and they said I had a bad fuel injector. The engine seems to have more power now, but it still doesn't seem to be back to where I thought it was.
Also, my problem about the exhaust not being as loud in M mode is still an issue. They said it's "normal" but i'm sure if they had another X5M to drive, they would see that it's not.

The intermittent high pitch wine, of course, never happens when I'm on a drive with the tech, so they couldn't fix that.

Oh and they replaced the battery. Said some of the cells had failed. That's it. I also spoke to the service manager when I picked the car up and he said when they change the battery, they have to flash all the electronics to the newest software. I think the only thing I notice is that it shifts better when coming to a short stop. Before it would start in 2nd then shift to 1st then back to 2nd. Now it seems to just stay in 2nd unless you really floor it.

Knock On wood mine is fixed. It was some cable that was draining the battery. They replaced both battery and cable and all is right in the world again.
