A few issues, wondering if anyone else has the same

1. I normally drive in M mode and I just noticed starting earlier this week that my exhaust in M mode is not as loud as it used to be. It's normally significantly louder than in non-M mode, but now it's only slightly louder. Also, I feel like the power is a tiny bit sluggish.

I checked to make sure the flaps in the exhaust were still opening and closing and I saw they were open with the car in park and closed with the engine off.

I haven't seen anyone else post about a problem like this but thought I would ask.

2. At cold start-up, the exhaust rattles and sounds like there's some loose metal in it.

3. When I park and turn off the car it makes a loud squeak noise. Kinda like what you would hear when you park on a hill and set the parking brake then the car jerks back a little. However, this happens almost every time I turn the car off even though it is parked in a flat garage. Is this normal?

4. I have a very intermittent high pitch whistle type sound. I have tried everything to make it happen but it's completely random. I think it's usually at slower speeds and sometimes even when I am at a stop. I know it's never going to make the sound when I happen to take it in for service, so this is another one of those quirks I have given up on but does anyone else have something similar?

Thanks!

I have this as well and it was improved by loosening the exhaust and re-torquing the system. As I understand the headers are reverse flow and come very close to the firewall and the noise you are hearing is an exhaust "whine" at a specific RPM based upon flow.

PM me for more info.

Edit- my dealer had 3 other X5M's in the shop and the noises were similar by car.

Great, thanks. I'll be sure to suggest it to the shop foreman when I take it in next week. I'm always stressed and worried that I will get the car back with the dreaded "could not duplcate" answer.

i'm also searching right now for other threads where peoples cars feel "sluggish"

I feel like I've lost some oomph, the gas pedal has alot more play in it than I remember, I feel like I'm pushing much farther to access the torque than I used to...

go figure..

I had a high pitched whistle. Turned out it was a split vacuum hose. 1 day problem solved.

I had my car in for service for about a week. They traced the exhaust rattle and the squeak when turning the car off to a leaking exhaust flap actuator vacuum. So, they replaced the entire exhaust.

They could not duplicate the high pitched whistle noise, so they didn't do anything about it. That sound is so random and intermittent that I doubt I'll ever get it fixed. :( I'll tell them again next time I take it in.

Is there only 1 vacuum hose on our car or do you know what vacuum hose was replaced? I want to have them check it the next time I take the car in.

Thanks.

No clue but can guess that there are 2 becuase we have 2 turbochargers. But this is a wild guess. I believe I olny had one replaced.

Yesssssss!!!! Very same thing that you are experiencing.
Mine feels very sluggish. I find that I really have to step on the gas more. Feels like lots of turbo lag now. And I actually backed it up at the track. Previously truck was running 12.6's and 12.7's in the quarter mile. Now the best I could do were 13.1's and 13.4's, and that is beating it like a rented mule.

When I took it to the dealer they found a 'Low Boost' code but nothing else, gave it back and it still sucks, definitely low on power.

BTW, mine started feeling slow about 10,000km have 12,000km on it now.

I am going to take it back to the track in the spring, if my 1/4 mile times are still way off I am going to trade the M in.

Now I'm getting all kinds of error messages on my car

Increased battery discharge warning is coming on and another light where the car looks like its on a lift

what is up with this car ?

Jeff
