Calling HIRISC
I ask because the feel of my steering wheel is driving me crazy. Put aside the fact that I went from non adaptive steering to the servotronic speed sensitive steering that is standard in the ///M. That alone is pissing me off. I am so used to how my steering used to be tight all the time, I really miss it. But back to my issue. I'm still getting used to the difference between the 50i and the ///M. I had 19s on the 50i, and have the 20s on the ///M. I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel at lower speeds (say up to 50-60 mph). Once I hit 65, I can see the steering wheel shutter. I haven't had time to go to the dealer. I was out with my brother today and he drove ( he has a B7) and I told him what I felt in the steering wheel. He says it's normal, it's due to the larger, wider tires. He feels the difference between his winter set up and his 21" wheels. I refuse to accept that this is normal. I should be able to get to the dealer soon, and I will see for myself when I put on the 19" wheels with the 255 snow tires but I'm curious. Did you have a shutter? Can you feel the difference between the 50i and the ///M? I'm OK with the ride but this is going to push me over the edge! TIA

For what it is worth, my 07 X5 4.8i I have always noticed the same thing. Over several new tire changes, alignments, road force balancing I have always had a slight shutter feeling at low speeds. My steering wheel feel always had a slight vibration. I have been to the dealer several times and they told me it was "normal". I chalked it up to the larger wheels and staggered set up 275 front and 315 rear.. I run 214 20"'s with non runflats in the summer ( Non RF thinking it would improve ride quality). However, when I put on my winter 19" 255's all around the shutter is almost non- existent. Funny you mention this now because I test drove the X6M (2010 they had no 2013 to test ) last week and was hoping that shutter feeling would not be noticeable, but it was. I was disappointed, however made me think it was in fact normal. I am ready to place my order for the 2013 X6M, but am still on the fence between this and the Cayenne. Love the X6M power and look, but the Cayenne felt like a more controlled refined ride, more responsive handling, beautiful interior (subjective). The BMW dynamic handling definitely takes some time to get used to, but I really like that feature on my X5. I know what your saying if you are used to a more mechanical steering setup the servo can feel somewhat light.

hard to believe OEM 20s set at the factory would produce a vibration that is normal. Have you at least tried balancing it again? Some wheels are just out of round which may not be fixable. In that case, I'd ask for another set and see what the dealer says considering yours is still relatively new (have a tech test drive with you). I've had my share of bad luck but they're not OEM and so I live with it. This is the first time I've seen a complaint about originals. I have zero vibe at low speeds, only at highway speeds. Shows that what you have doesn't have to be.

My 4.8 w/ 20's and run flats was scary smooth when new...even when they were howling away w/12,000m, there was no vibration at any speed....sounds like somethings off...perhaps it's related to your fancy servotronic steering system.....it woud suck if that's the only feedback the steering gives you!

My 2 cents worth here, never had a shudder with 20" or 21" with various X models including the X6M. I have only experienced this with tires that have not been fitted properly....
Cheers,

No shudder or vibration here on either my 2010 or 2013 X5M. I think something must be out of balance or out of round on yours. Good luck and keep us posted.
