PLZ HLP

On my '10 x5m it seems that the starter has died. I have purchased a new one and tried to replace it with my friend in our garage, but it seems that there must be some sort of a secret or a special tool. After we unscrew the starter from the engine/gearbox, we can't take it out because of the engine mount. It seems that one has to lift the engine to do the swap then, which to me seems insane as you'd have to disconnect everything in the engine bay. Seems like a crazy amount of work just to swap a starter Plz help, what's the secret???
