X3 Trailer Hitch Electrical Help (No power to 5/6 pins)
EDIT: I just went back to check the most obvious stuff... hadn't thought to look under the luggage compartment until just now, and apppppparently the lighting control module somehow didn't make it into the install... ...glad I figured it out before driving 3 hours to have the car coded, not glad I'm somehow missing a part that should totally be there. We've checked fuses, multiple people have checked all the connections, everything's seems to be hooked up correctly, but... We're not getting power for any of the lights. I checked all the pins on the hitch with a test light (with lights on, flashers on, brakes on, etc.) ONLY the top right pin (labeled "positive") lights up the test light... Everyone (my mechanic included) keeps saying "you're going to need to talk to an electrician." After combing bimmerforums and here (and googling a whole hell of a lot), I caught mention of it maybe, maybe, possibly being a coding thing... I found someone who says he can code the car for a trailer later this evening (about an hour and a half away, but at this point I'll try anything since we were supposed to be on the road, with trailer in tow, yesterday), so I guess that's the next thing we'll try. All the BMW dealerships out here have been no help. (Rusnak had the absolute worst, most condescending service dept. guy I've ever spoken to in my life, who then offered to make me an appointment with a $170 minimum diagnostics fee; Bob Smith BMW said they'd also have to book me an appointment for expensive diagnostics, but at least they were way, way nicer about it... I had originally asked Rusnak about installing it, they said no and referred me to a hitch place that wouldn't actually even install an OEM hitch, only did customs, hence my having my regular mechanic do it.) If driving out to get it coded happens to solve it, yay, awesome... if not, I'm not sure what else the problem could be...? Any ideas/suggestions? (People in the greater Los Angeles - or, better yet - Ventura County area that I could hire to look at it ASAP?) TL,DR: Got hitch installed, but it's not getting power for lights.
