stumped on P0174 (only)..

Bmw x3, 2005

recently changed the oil pan gasket. After complete, the SES light is on. OBDII is reporting P0174 only (no P0171), clearing the faults doesn't turn the light or remove the code.

I've checked for air leaks using propane and engine starter, neither turned up anything.

Cleaned the MAF sensor. OBD is reporting 3.15 g/s, 0.4 lb/min at idle.

I'm stumped and can't figure out what might be causing the issue. Any help would be very appreciated.

The only time I've run across a stubborn P0174 code was on a M54 engine that had a DISA valve that was not sealing well. German auto solutions sells an O-ring for around five bucks for that purpose. It fits really well and that solved the problem I had. I know it doesn't seem related to your oil pan gasket service, but that's where the air leak was after ruling out the intake hoses which do develop cracks over time...

That was going to be the next thing to check. Although - most of the DISA leaks caused both P0174 and p0171. Did you have both, or just 0174?

Do you think a little RTV sealant would do the trick? i'm all for a ghetto fix at this point.

Air intake hose is my best bet.

Just the P0174.....5 bucks for the o-ring is still a pretty ghetto fix to me...RTV is kinda thin, but if you can get it to seal go for it...
