I drive an 2006 BMW with 98,xxx miles on it. When driving on the highway and I accelerate to pass another vehicle the engine starts jerking or chugging similar to a misfire. No service engine soon or other dashboard lights have come on even briefly. I changed the spark plugs somewhere in the 60,000 - 70,000 mile span. I also had a 75,000 mile inspection (not a tune up) done. This inspection included: throttle linkage, brake system, CV joint boots and axle seals, steering and suspension, shift linkage, driveshaft, cooling fan operation, fluids, exhaust, and ball joints.
I notice that this problem happens in 3rd gear or higher. I do not notice any issues driving around town 25 - 45 mph. This started about 3.5 - 4 years ago and when it did it was barely noticeable. It got worse since then but pretty much has plateaued for the last 2.5 - 3 years or so and hasn't gotten noticeably worse.
Since it's not throwing a code, it's hard to say....sometimes an oxygen sensor failing can cause that bucking....but usually you would get a code. Maybe fuel pump not delivering enough pressure for higher rpm load?
