Wheels on EBay

Ok, I saw these wheels on EBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

The seller has good feedback, but I can't believe he's selling a set of 4 Hartge wheels with an opening bid of $550. Am I missing anything, or is he just counting on the bidding taking the price up to a 'normal' level?

I've bought lots of stuff on EBay, but most (if not all) was less than $100. I'm a little hesitant to jump in a wheels, knowing how many crappy 'deals' are on EBay for wheels... Any tips?

Sure would like those wheels on my X3!!

They are probably look-alike wheels. They do that, have a "known" name in the listing, to attract more traffic to the auction.

If they are "real" why would they write this:
"You are bidding on a set four 100% BRAND NEW SET OF (4) 19x8.5" designer wheels specially made for the BMW 3 series vehicle."

Why not just have the name of the wheels?

I bought my wheels from eBay (EuroTech) and I like them alot. Only had them for a couple of weeks so I can't comment on their longevity but I saved some money (they are AC Type IV look-alike).

Here are my 2 cents. I too was looking for aftermarket wheels. I think it is best to get wheels from a reputable wheel shop in your area. If the ebay'er is in the area (like what 818gusy did) then go for it. I mean you don't know what kind of quality the ebay wheels are. $550 for 4 wheels, you get what you pay for. That is just me. I ended up deciding to just powder coat my oem wheels for a new look because I know I wouldn't have any fitment or quality issues.

Good point - as the seller intended, I focused on the '100%' and my mind saw '100% Hartge.'

I'm going to mull it over, and I may get them. If I can get them for $550, that is! For that price, I think 19" may be worth it...

While I'm thinking about the auction, I'm going to take a look around locally. Unfortunately, I have to drive a little bit to get to anywhere that's going to have a decent selection - without too much price gouging, that is!

I personally have bought wheels from them before and they are pretty reputable here in So Cal. they make a Replica M3 CSL wheel that alot of people buy. but yes, those are rep Hartge wheels.

Good to know, I guess the reason they are so cheap is not because of poor quality but because they only stock a few style of rims.
