Intermittent P0012 code

I’m starting to hate this. My 2007 X3 was a train on rails and always solid when it came to dependability. I had zero problems for a long time. Then I started to have an oil leak and when it got to the point of being able to see smoke coming out from under the hood, I decided to get it fixed, my mechanic wanted nothing to do wih it so I figured I would do it, it was only a valve cover gasket.
Bad idea. I started out with a leaky valve cover gasket. Ended up replacing the entire valve cover, it’s gasket, the VANOS oil check valves. Valve timing solenoids. Changed the oil. And now I’m getting P0012 intermittently. I'll drive for a bit and turn the ignition off, come out and start the car back up and "Service Engine Soon" pops up
I can also tell you I've had bad water leaking into the cabin. In the battery well and the drivers seatbelt is wet.

I don't know what to do next.
