Let's Go Racin' June 3 and 4

The LA Chapter of the BMW CCA is hosting a driver's school at Willow Springs on June 3 and 4. There are still some spaces left. I strongly encourage all LA folks to attend. Although it is $450, that is two days of track time, lunch both days and dinner saturday night.

I hope to see you all there!

Sounds like fun Randy. I have always wanted to run Willow, especially the Streets of Willow. Unfortunately I do not have an appropriate track toy right now and my E90 isn't due to arrive until after that event. Are you taking the MCS or the X3?

Have a great time and be safe.

Kevin -

The definition of "suitable" is so varied... I no longer own the Mini thanks to some dumb bimbo in a 4Runner. So I am taking the X3 since that is all I own right now. As you may note from this forum, I have been running the X3 with BMW CCA Auto-x and doing fairly well (all things being equal).

While the X3 is not my absolute first choice for a track day it should be fine. The key is keeping the vehicle within its limits. Based on its performance auto-crossing I should not be holding people up too badly out there

Frankly, there is no good reason not to go. Visit your local rental agency and rent a miata or something for the week-end. Many places even rent BMW's (a friend of mine is planning to rent a 545i)!

This event is being run on big Willow. I have never driven that track so it should be exciting. While I am nervous as hell I think it will be great. Think of it this way... if I have an off-track excursion it will be no big deal for MY car

Anyhow it would be great to see you! Since it is an overnight bring the wife (I hear Lancaster is a great place for a honeymoon).

Sorry to hear about the untimely demise of the MCS. I'm glad you escaped unhurt though.

I won't run the X5 on the track but maybe the E90 330.

OK Kevin...why wont you run the X5 on the track? Could it be for the same reasons I am nervous about putting the X3 out there? (high CG and all)

My take on this is that one needs to learn to operate a vehicle within the limits of that particular vehicle. If a SAV's limits are lower than a car then so be it. That does nothing to change the analysis. It just slows the speeds.

I plan to keep the X3 shiny side up by being generous about letting people pass. My ego shall be placed in temporary suspense for the two days.

Come on out! It will be great fun!!!
