Gotta love BMW. Everything's an "option!"

gotcha rasta.
i guess i'll have to check mine out when i take delivery....if it works, that does seem a suitable option (the key chain)

Might you have a "faulty" key set?

The button on the key will release the trunk if the car is locked only. Otherwise you just use the grip on the underside of the hatch itself.

As I ponder this I find it odd that the car does not come with an interior hatch release button. Every other BMW does...

I dunno if someone has the time/skills to do this, but perhaps someone could cut a square into the "DSC/heated seats/TPMS" row of buttons and put it next to the switch for the passenger heated seat. That would make it look factory-installed like the one in the X5. Maybe coincidentially, even if all options are ordered, there is an empty space on that row of buttons next to the pass. heated seat switch.

I considered that option, but it's virtually impossible to install the trunk release switch in that location unless you literally break apart the row of buttons. They're not individual switches in the sense that they're all sealed in the same plastic enclosure.

I might. I don't know if anyone else's key does that as well. But I like taking my car apart, and installing the switch gave me an excuse to do just that! BTW, as for opening the hatch accidentally with the "optional" release, it's pretty unlikely. You have to apply a decent amount of pressure to the switch, and just brushing against it won't do the trick. GL, and let us all know what you eventually decide!

thanks white...I realize you can do it "manually" via the hatch....I'm thinking more of times when you want to release/open it from the cockpit, etc.

The install RASTA did looks very "factory"....I'm going to check with my dealer about it....Seems to integrate nicely, esp if its hidden in the glove box

I don't know why they didn't just do it standard either.

For me, one reason I might not do it is b/c our dog will often be in the hatch....and i wouldn't want to release it accidentally.

anyway, something to think about
