My top speeds (quite interesting)
Anyway, on friday I was driving to my friends graduation with a girl in the front and three big guys in the back (not fat but just built). On the highway I had the pedal to the floor and the car was having trouble getting past 165 km/h. Later that night I brought three girls back home after the graduation party, one of them was quite round. On the highway again, 5AM, clear roads, pedal to the floor, the car was now having trouble getting past 185. After hitting 160, it took a little while to get up to 185. On my way back home at 6AM, clear roads again, alone in the car I was able to hit 210 about. Im pretty sure in the X3 manual its mentionned 198Km/h for the 2.0i max speed. Anyway I just felt like sharing my experience with the rest of you. By the end of the year im going to sell the X3 and buy a new 4x4 once I move to NY. I need something bigger and with twice the amount of power. The 2.0i only has 150hp |

I wasn't aware there was a 2.0 model....are you sure about that?
As far as i knew, the ONLY '06 model for x3 is the 3.0...i think they did away with the 2.5...Unless you have a special european model (your plates and references to KMH suggest you are not U.S. based) Anyway, depending on where you are moving in NY, bigger may not be better....If you're moving to NYC, the x3 is perfect, since it's small enough to be able to park on streets and also doesn't qualify for the increased prices garages charge for "SUVs"..... Just something to consider.....For city usage, the x3 (at least the 3.0 model) has plenty of power |

I've got a 3.0, and I love it. Just yesterday, I was travelling to Savannah, GA (about a 45 min trip on back, two-lane roads - I love SC!), and had NO problem passing anyone I wanted. At one point, my wife looked over at the speedo, and said, "Oh, we didn't even hit 80?"
Bottom line, the 3.0 gets up and goes very willingly, especially in sport mode. As Peter said, it's also small, so it is nimble in traffic. Just make sure you get the sport package, so you don't get the black bumpers!

The 2 littre engine is on the market for the past 10 months and the X3 was fitted with that engine to cover the needs of markets that tax higher the bigger engines such as Greece,Portugal.Never knew that markets such as USs would import that X3.Did you know that in Greece there is a 316 BMW with 115 hp?To compare the taxation,in Greece an X5 4,4 littre sport costs 96 600 euros starting price whereas in US costs 53 600 dollars. In Germany the 4,4 costs 64 400.

I know there's a 2.0d version......but a 2.0i? Wow............at least you got the manual. My X3 2.5i (half tank of gas, 2 other people) could probably bang up against the limiter on a flat surface, but on a backroad I could only barely get to 115mph cuz 4th gear in the automatic is basically useless (5250rpm) and it's too tall for significant acceleration on hilly roads.

elijah, I wouldn't worry too much about it when you move to the U.S. because your choice will be extremely limited. In the U.S. you only have one choice for an X3 as of 2006 (the 3.0) as compared to up to five choices in other countries, I believe (the bare minimum choices in most other countries are the 2.5 and 3.0, no choice in the U.S.).
In any case, if you attempt to drive at the speeds you were describing, in the U.S., you will get your driver's license yanked immediately with no questions (I'm amazed you got the X3 up to over 100 mph with only a 2.0 liter engine). I almost had my license suspended on the spot after being clocked at just over 100 mph (about 170 kph), but the trooper knocked the ticket back to 160 km so he wouldn't have to. |

wow. i also had no idea that there was a 2.0 liter engine. i think my 3.0 can be slow - i cannot imagine what the 2.0 would be like. i don't blame you for wanting a different vehicle when you move to new york!

Speed
Thank god for the German autobahn. I manged 141 mph a few months ago in our Cooper S Cab. We were in Geneva a couple of weeks ago with the X5, didn't cross into Germany though so have yet to do a top speed check on it. (I take it from your plate you are from Geneva or your car is registered there). Don't you just love overtaking the traffic police at 200 kph AND legally?
