Technik Supercharger

Well Technik finally released their supercharger for the X3 and it is really tempting. They are located in L.A. which is really close to me. I also heard some good things about Technik Engineering. At first I was going to go w/ ESS supercharger but ESS is based in Norway and I heard a few stories about bad technical support and falsely advertised performance gains. What do you guys think? Technik Supercharger? Another conern I have that is the X is my daily driver. Am I going to run into alot of problems in the future?

Go for it! I love Technik, great people, and even greater products. I plan on getting their kit for my X5 when I have enough dough.

Don't know what the gain is but looks like they run about $6000 or so.

on the website, the supercharger for the 2004+ 545s, which have the same N62 engine as the V8 X5s, are $15K for the stage 1 and $25K for the stage 2 It doesn't say what the gain is, but for that price, it better put you close to 500 ponies, or give you 500 fluffers.

I have thought a lot about supercharging the X3... Here is my take...

People have been putting forced induction on the M54 engine for a number of years. Theoretically any weaknesses in the motor have been identified and dealt with.

The Technik kit appears to include software and fuel injectors as well as an intercooler. 6.5 psi of boost is pretty low and should be safe IF (and only if) the software does not get too close to the detonation edge. It seems to me like there are many questions to ask...

1. Have they actually installed any?
2. How are they controlling detonation?
3. Can the stock fuel pump handle the added volume from the bigger injectors?
4. What happens to emissions ( you live in CA and this package does not appear to be CARB exempt)?
5. Are there any permanent changes needed for installation?
6. Who is doing the software tuning? Was it done on a dyno or is it purely hypothetical?
7. Can the center differential handle the extra power?

I am sure I am missing many questions here...I would love to have that kind of power in the X, but I fear that in the long run your motor might not last. If BMW caught wind of a SC installation you could kiss your powertrain warranty goodbye. Does Technik offer a supplemental warranty?

I would want to see a dyno chart of an actual X3 before buying. Let me know what you decide to do.

I read that thread a while ago. However it still does not address whether or not the center differential can handle the additional torque. I would love to read a review of somebody who has actually done an X3!!!
