Does the X3 have runflats or not?

Ok I'm really confused guys...

I went to the tire shop (America's tire Co) and they swore that I didn't have runflats. (I have Pirelli Scorpions original tires from my 04 non sport X3).

Then I drive down to the dealer, and my SA says I do not have runflats, but I ask another SA in passing and he says all X3's do have runflats (as well as Z4's and the new E90).

I also remember the sales person telling me I had runflats, which is why the X3 comes with a doughnut spare instead of a full-size.

So today I've been doing some reading here, and on roadcrap forums and have found conflicting information. Do I have run-flats or not?

Before you ask, America's Tire Co was recommended by my dealer (and is just down the street from them), so apparently (according to my SA) they should know BMW's. They also recommended that I get some Michlin Sport tires or something like that. A quick look at the 06 X3's at the dealer confirmed that BMW has switched from Pirelli tires to Michlin tires for new X3's. What do guys think?

How'bout going out and looking at
your tire sidewalls...if you do have
RFs, somewhere on the sidewall it
will say one of the following:

-RFT
-DSST
-EMT
-ZP

which are simply acronyms for the various mfg'ers run flat tire series.

Then, you'll know and, you can tell the board.

To my knowledge the P Scorpions are not offered in RFT...

I think you have bumped into an eclectic group of
ill informed people/tire joints/stlr personnel.

If your current tires on your X do not have any of the
acronyms I listed earlier, you don't have "run flats";

2nd clue: if you have a spare, you don't have "run flats".

I once had a flat and drove back home since my salesman told me i had runflats. The dude at the garage told me i didnt so had to pay about 500$ for a new tire. Later on i got my money back because if the dude hadnt told me i had runflats they couldve saved the tire wich was ruined cuz i drove with it while it was flat.
I took a quick look in the trunk and didnt see a spare so i figured no space = runflats (but i did have one)
If you have a spare then you probably dont have runflats

Since all of your tell tell signs point to the fact that you DON'T have run-flat (no markings on the side of the tires, have a donut spare), the safest thing to do is to assume that you DON'T have run-flat and just move on. I've NEVER seen run-flats on SAVs/SUVs/SUTs...unless BMW is considering the X3 to be more of a "wagon" than a "cross-over".

America's tire co

Your SA

The second SA doesn't know the difference between an M3 and a X3

Sales person
