I would think about leasing.I was at the dealer yesterday and the CA said he can't write up orders on the X3 fast enough,so to speak, because of all the advertisement they are getting with the low lease price,I believe it is $349,local or ED.Good luck
cheers

the key is choice - you have a choice to try to work with another dealership and work to get the price you want. the first dealership you went to chose not to meet your desired price. i don't think it's reasonable to write off the first dealership because of this (unless they were rude or unprofessional, though you noted they were neither) - they were simply making what they felt was a smart business decision to continue being profitable.

i love my X3, and i was willing to pay more over other brands to get one. i wouldn't expect a deep discount on a new model in a premium brand. yes, i'm sure it happens from time to time, but there are so many factors that could come into play (customer history with the dealership, the salesperson needing to sell a certain number of vehicles in a time period to hit a sales goal, etc.) that i would think it's more the exception than the norm.
Honestly, if he settles for 200 under MSRP for an 07 X3, he's getting ripped off, no two ways about it. I don't care if they give you 7 Series loaners for the once a year scheduled service (unless you drive more than 15K a year), that dealer is too high. I'm not saying they have to give it away, but keep looking. you'll do better.

I disagree and think that he should try a different dealership. He does not want to pay msrp and he should not have to. If they were unnegotiable when trying to purchase the car, I wonder how much of a pain they will be when you have problems with it. You have to work hard to get, what you feel, is the best deal possible for the car that you want. So, who cares if that dealership does not want to make a deal with you, go on the next. Even try some dealerships farther away. Eventually you will find that perfect deal for you.

This is the type of approach that often results in complaints on after-sales service. If all that matters to you is a low purchase price, by all means go ahead. You may want to consider other factors, though, and that is what we were saying in our posts above.

I understand, however you do not need to service the car at the same dealership that you bought the car from.

True, but you probably wouldn't get the same level of service you would had you purchased the car at that dealership. It would stink royally if they won't give you a loaner because you didn't buy from them, and now you have to hop on the bus back as it's about 20 miles away.

I purchased the car at one dealer and because there service got so bad I changed to another dealer,( JMK ), and there service is so GOOD I have been with them ever since with Sales, Service and Body Shop. They are equally good in all three areas. So your theory is not so.
cheers

Service and Sales are unrelated in that respect. Remember he is trying to buy a new model at cost plus, he will be looking a long time for that deal.

That is true. All I am saying is that the stealer is always trying to get an extra buck out of our pockets. We should fight back and not be allowed to get ripped off.
