Salesperson trick? or fact?

I placed $1000 deposit on a Black X3 on monday and then on tuesday, sales informed me the Black color is gone and he found me another one which is Silver but with extra $2000 options loaded.
I dont have car now so I have no choice but to buy this silver X3. My questin is is this some kind of sales trick, is he trying to make me buy a more expensive one?

It's a trick, you should call BMW NA and complain. You should also call the Sales Manager and complain as well. Your deposit should be refunded 100% (it's the law). You could also try to make them give you the silver one without charging you for the 2k extra options.

If you are fine with the Silver versus the Black then tell the dealer that you'll take the Silver one but only at the same negotiated price as the Black one.

Sounds a bit like a bait and switch ploy to me.

Yep, absolutely hold out for what you want. If you don't want silver, don't get the silver, same price or no. Even if the dealer can't get the car locally, they can certainly order a black one and I definitely would not pay more than your previously negotiated price. Sounds like a bait & switch to me too.

Lesson No 1: Get to know the dealer principal the quick way. Schedule an appointment and inform him of the situation. Use words such as............
1: unacceptable
2: jerking my chain
3: take my hard earned cash elsewhere
4: written complaint to BMW NA
5: I shall bring my German Shephers here to bite your butt

Let us know how it goes. Give 'em hell but keep your cool, you'll get better results that way!

I guess I am not strong enough. they just offer me a free security system. that is CAD$899.99. The name is sth like "Bomberang Elite", dont remember how to spell it. I need the car badly so I accepted the offer. Personally, I prefer black, then grey, then water blue then silver, so... it is really my 4th choice only. Anyway, I think I need to get used to silver from now on. Thanks for all.

Well, when you get in and drive it, you'll forget all about the color! I'm sure you'll love it anyway.
