Unhappy

So the dealer will have our X3 for up to 2 weeks more. The navigation unit is here, but the bluetooth unit is on backorder for 10 or more business days. Once the dealer has your car after a recall, he cannot give it back, since if you have an accident with a faulty bluetooth unit, then there is a chance it won't notify BMW Assist. So they are liable. At least that's what the service manager told me. I tend to believe him. At any rate, we will get to enjoy the 530i for at least another week, probably more. I am going to ask them for a nav DVD so we can see how easy iDrive is to use with the nav. My wife is not complaining.

Cool Still no TCU at dealer....

So, the dealer will have had our X3 for a month in 3 days. The telecommunications unit is still not here from Germany. They have another X3 sitting there waiting for a replacement TCU, too. Never have I had a vehicle out of service for a month, especially when it is mechanically perfect. Oh, well. We have put nearly 1500 miles on the beautiful loaner 530i. Just so long as it doesn't snow we're ok. Going on holiday vacation with 530i if the X3 isn't available. I hope others get their recalled bluetooth units replaced on time. This is apparently a big recall, X3 and X5. When the part arrives in USA it will then take 2 days to get to the dealer. Looks like at least another week.

Jon

I was told by my dealer here in Germany that my 2006 U.S. X3 does not have the blinker feature like the Audi's. Does someone have a list in English of what all can be programed by the dealer. That would be a great feature to have.

There was a number of threads on the Assist recall on another board - although they didn't indicate that the TCU always had to be replaced (depended on which network the unit was using). Bascially for some 2006 X3's the TCU would deactivate itself because of an issue with the TCU's Mobile Identification Number.

Here's the link to the thread with the text of the bulletin:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=154301

As for the list of programmable options for the X3, they are included in the manual.

Cheers,

Pierre

During the weeks my X3 has been at the dealer, I received a letter from BMW explicitely stating the TCU must be replaced due to a recall, and the dealer confirmed that replacement was needed. Again, since the manual for the 2006 is in the glovebox, I cannot tell you on what page the autoblink for the turn signals feature is listed, but it is there for US models.

Pierre, my X3 was produced in October of 2005, and that service bulletin you referenced is for vehicles produced 6 months later. It's a similar problem, perhaps less severe than on earlier production dates, as is the case with mine.

Question on the recall, I also have a 2006 with Nav, Prem, etc. I have not recieved a recall letter. I had my car in for the 1 year deal two weeks ago and no mention of a recall. Any ideas.

X3 is home again! The saga has ended.

Page 40 in the 2006 X3 manual is where it says you can turn on the 3 blink turn signal feature. Dealer said his computor won't allow him to turn off the 37 degree warning, even though it says you can in the manual.

So the TCU (bluetooth unit) is replaced. Dealer returned the X3 to us today. It is spotless, waxed with somthing they put on every 6 months for 3 years. The service manager was extremely apologetic. He gave me two bottles of windshield washer concentrate (the BMW washer fluid is awesome stuff) and offered to put in a 6 disc CD changer, or an iPod adaptor for free, or to give us the 100,000 mile extended routine maintainance warranty (which we already purchased at time of sale). Wow! My wife won't give up the space in the center console for the CD changer, though that's a generous offer. I'm not gonna push it, because I respect the service manager, (and we did have the 530i as a loaner for the last 6 weeks), but I may ask if the Homelink mirror or a Sirius receiver is a possibility (since both cost less than either the exteded warranty or the CD changer).

The oil service indicator was not reset. I'm guessing we'll get another oil change in about 4500 miles and have the cabin airfilter replaced then (they didn't replace the microfilter, even though I thought they would).

Turns out the NAV was OK. They just put it in some mode and drove it in a circle 5 revolutions and recalibrated the gyros. Nice to have our X3 back. Sorry to see the 530i go back. I think one of each is a great combo to have in the garage, especially since my Probe GT is 14 yrs old this week and has 199,000 miles on it (it only has a cassette deck and no CD player!) Hope everyone is having a fine holiday season.

Great service from dealer at 15K scheduled service

Well, took the X3 in for the 15K service. As a token of goodwill the service manager gave us a free Sirius radio and installed it. This was to make up for keeping the X3 for 6 weeks back in Nov-Dec when waiting for the bluetooth module. Wife didn't want a CD changer or ipod adaptor, and we already had the extended maintenance warranty. We had a 2006 3 series loaner for the day. Nice folks in the service dept at my dealer. Makes me want to buy another BMW. Soon. X3 has been a great vehicle the first 15K miles.

Tip: you can't set up the Sirius radio with the X3 in the garage. OOps!

Sounds to me that you have a great dealer just like mine, JMK BMW. Don't you think it would be nice to mention the dealers name so others will know and possibly go to them? Good luck and enjoy the X3 to bad the 530i had to go back, oh well
cheers
