Question about the tool area in the trunk

I bought a used X3 so Im not sure whats missing from the tools area where the jacks, battery, etc.., Is there suppose to be something in the large squarish area box on the left hand side of this compartment? I know there's nothing in the top left hand side box or is there?

If you have the cold weather package, that's where the ski bag is stored.
