Building an X3, what options do I need to get Sirius Satellite radio?

The standard radio states 'pre-wired for Satellite' but I don't see a specific option for Sirius itself, is it Sirius ready, or is something else needed (supplied by dealer or?)

The only thing I don't need is the subscription, which I already have.

Sat Radio

On the '07 cars they all seem to have the sat radio prep that was optional on earlier cars. You will need to buy the radio from BMW parts dept, get the CCA discount, and pay the service dept to install it. There are instructions on several sites on DIY installs. The whole sequence, which had done cost $375. The key is not to have the service dept provide the radio, you need to get it seperately from parts and pay service to install it.

Thanks for the info, is that the same radio as the "Premium" option, or is that something specifically needed for Sirius?

Sirius Radio

The actual radio is a seperate box, which plugs in to the harnesses in the left hand compartment(the compartment where the NAV unit sits). There is one other connection behind the radio head on the dash that the DIY materials will cover. Please look over the materials on the shark fin for 07 as there seems to have been some changes in the wiring harness this year.

You mean the Sirius receiver? Why doesn't BMW just offer this as an option, I don't want to do any DIY stuff.

BMW does offer it as an option...a dealer-installed option. You can have the dealer install it, but they will charge you huge amounts of labor...

You can actually get the Sirius receiver from Morristown BMW (a sponsor of this board) for $380, and yes, it does include a free one year subscription. The installation is a snap. It's all plug 'n' play. If I can do it, trust me, you can.

Could you explain "CCA discount", every where I look for the Sat-kit, it is nearly $500 for the parts alone. $375 is a good price, does it inlcude the one year free subscription. If so, that could bring the costs down another $120 or so.

Thanks in advance,
Vipz

You need to join the BMW Car Club of America if you're not already a member to get that discount. BMWCCA.org
