Temerature gauge

Just got my X3 and have been in traffic recently since the weather heated up a bit here in scotland and the temp gauge is in the red and the alarm is sounding. Is this normal or is it straight back to the dealer??

Not normal...the "gauge" is really a 3 position clock
that reads stone cold, climbs to midpoint, (under almost
all driving conditions), and only dives right, into the red
when something is amiss.

I'd haul azz for the dlr...could be just a sensor or something
else.

Did any warning lights come on?

Although it could be a faulty sensor, I hope you shut down the engine immediately as a precaution when the temp gauge was red and an alarm went off.

Sounds like a faulty thermostat. Somebody else had that happen to them. The thermostat got stuck closed but opened later on after the car cooled off. The guy still took it to the dealer and they replaced it.

Great gusto, (hehe, that sounds like some saying... "Great gusto!")
Have fun in the 525!
