No dip stick in an '07 X3. Oil capacity?

I searched the engine compartment looking for an oil dip stick in my new 2007 X3. Not finding it, I read the manual to find out - it doesn't have one! There is an electronic oil level indicator, found by push a button on the instrument panel - inconvenient for an oil change and not too precise. I just pushed it and it says 'ok', not 'on the low side of ok', on the high side, etc.

Also, the manual doesn't give the oil capacity. I guess they assume you'll take it to the dealer for all oil changes and service work. So, does anyone know the oil capacity? Otherwise, I'll drain the used oil into containers of known volume, and hone in on the replacement amount from there.

Thanks.

being an 07 you have the 4/50,000 maintenance. So don't worry about it.

Probably at least 7 litres, to about 8.

Yea, for some reason BMW marketing thinks no dipstick is progress. Kinda glad I still have one. At the E90 meet, folks were exclaiming "What? You have a dipstick? WHAT'S THAT?!?!?!?" (as a joke).

Isn't the "3.0" the same motor, in both the X5 and the X3?

If so, the '06 and earlier X5 manuals list oil capacity
at 8 qts.

Curiously, we don't have an '07 X3 manual here on the site...
More curiously, is the '07 X5 manual that does not list oil
capacity. WTF?

As I posted earlier in this thread:
"Welcome to Walmart Nation and the Biff & Buffy target mkt".

Next up are sealed hoods that only the stlr "tech" can open;
hard to believe... actually it's not that hard to believe.
