Will the 08's have the twin turbo petrol engine?

Has anyone heard any news in regards to the twin turbo 3.0 inline six making its way stateside for model year 08?

There is a BMW employee, Scott27, who is a member here and other various BMW forums. One of his duties is to drop bit and pieces of information regarding future models in these forums to seed and cultivate interest. He's definitely for real - most everything he discloses takes place.

Here's what he said about the biturbo X3 back in August '06:

My guess is that we'll see an X5 3.5si towards the end of the year.

Thanks asawadude.

My dealer seems to think that the 08 model year will have the new engine as well. Looks like I'll be putting in a factory order towards the end of the year...and trading my 04.

I just hope it has an oil cooler and a good fuel pump

Seriously though, I agree with Azn...I want an X3 with the new twin turbo diesel. And ride height adjustable suspension would be nice, as would active sway bars...

The wife is getting a new X3 in December so we will see. If they do offer the twin turbo in the X3, I hope they also offer a lower HP version...I mean, really...just what I need...the wife in a twin turbo X3...She's not that great of a driver (it's ok married guys, she'll never read this).

I feel your pain White05X3. My wife doesn't need anything faster either. She has had her new X3 3 months now and here is the wonderful list:
Ran off the road chipping some paint
Following to close and got a rock in the windsheild (new Windsheild installed)
Following to close to a truck and got a 5 gallon bucket of paint dropped in the middle of the road.... creating a very long day for me
Last week rubbed all up on a curb and scratched the hell of out the rim all the way around.

I can't wait to see what all happens to the buetiful automobile over the next 6 years. It will proboly look like something out of demo durby when it's time to trade it.

Man, tell your wife to be more careful! It's a BMW, not a 30 year old Cadillac.

I'm with you. They need to offer a diesel in the U.S. I drove a friends Euro X3 with a 3.0 diesel and it was fantastic.

Others can "police" me on this, but no.

We've got too much sulfur in our diesel for European manufacturers. The oil companies are coming out with reduced-sulfur blends, though, so hopefully it won't be long 'til we get some BMW diesels over here...
