Kinda hard to say this right, but.....

Well, kinda bought an X3 today.

I first went over to Fields BMW to look at an '07 X3, and so we took it for a spin.
(The car is not for me, but for a family member, but I will be spending time in it). So I thought it rode kind of harshly, but ok. The salesman was new, and made no effort to sell me it, so I walked out the door and went to Knauz (next closest to me). I met a very experienced salesman, and since I thought the X3 rode to harsh, I said why not take the 328xi out for a spin. I loved it, it had pretty good power, and a great interior, and a good ride. But, they said they wanted an SUV, so the 3er was knocked out. So, they decided to get a X3. They said they wanted the Platinum Bronze Metallic (which I like too), and the dealer said they have two of them, both identical, both with the rare Tobacco leather and Light Poplar trim. It has that, nav, premium, htd front seats, servotronic, and I think that's it. So a pretty unique car. We got a fair number for their trade-in (a late model medium size SUV) and a fair discount on the X3. (2,000+). We're picking it up on Wednesday. Truthfully, I had no idea I was even going to be at any BMW dealership until this morning.

Also:
I saw an amazing red BMW Z1 parked out in front of the dealer. It was from Germany. Quite a few new 5ers. They were nice. I saw a sapphire black 4.8 X5 with chrome 21's. Hot!

wednesday....unless you want horrible cell pictures (that I can't get of my phone)...

edit: Also, forgot one thing. The new salesguy pulled up an X3 fresh off the trailer from Germany. When you pull a car off a trailer from Germany, it has 1 gallon of fuel in it. We needed to stop at a gas station DURING the test drive. . It was also not washed since it left Germany. (or so it seemed).

What things are on the dealer checklist?
I assume:
DRL (off)
locks (lock at speed, automatically unlock)
confirmation flash/beep (on, on)

what else?

Warning about the locks: they can be set to auto lock, but they will not auto-unlock. You will have to press the central locking button or double pull to get out.

Little known fact, but I think you can set how long you want the pathway lights to stay on. Default is 40 secs and I dunno if you'd want any longer, but it can be 90, 150, or 240 secs..

See if they want the ice warning at 3C/37F. If no, ask the dealer to deactivate it.

thanks. I don't mind double pulling, so I'll probably do that. 40 secs is fine.
I'll be driving the vehicle too sometimes, and I find the ice warning pretty annoying, so I'll tell them to deactivate it if they can.

Congrats! on purchase. The X3, like any other BMW, is unloaded first at VDC before it gets to dealer. So I don't think the trailer came straight from Germany to Knauz. It most probably went to VDC at NJ port and from there in those white Pmtg/ Bavarian Transport trucks to dealer in IL.
See what happens at VDC.

BTW, don't use Knauz for service.

Thanks for the links, LM. I wasn't expecting to purchase there, but they had the car, and had the price, so we took it.
This is what was out in front: (not my pic)

It was soo cool.
They also had a very hot looking '08 550i with the aero kit/M pack....very attractive.
I was told that the 335i (both coupe and convertible) are flying off the lot, and the soonest you can get a 335i cabriolet was November.

More questions keep popping into my head....

How is the audio system w/ nav? We weren't going to get it, but the salesman made it transparent price-wise. We spent 5 mins using it, and while it wasn't R&D as much as iDrive it was "okay". It will be used mainly for local drives, so nav isn't as big as an issue (although the search function works well) as Bluetooth and Radio. It is fairly easy to tune/use presets with nav? Do you need to have the screen up to listen? (I know it automatically goes up apon start). Is Bluetooth ok? Mainly for answering calls, and maybe going into the phonebook to place calls occasionally.
Thanks in advance.
