Weak dollar = Good time to build in the USA

Exactly.

From the Reuters article:

New Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer, who has initiated the first strategic review since 2001, has said the group needs to build up its production volume in Spartanburg to roughly 200,000 units or more in the next two to three years to help hedge against currency fluctuations.

It built just 105,000 vehicles in Spartanburg last year.

Partly as a result, the company suffered adverse forex headwinds of 666 million euros ($902 million) in 2006 and another 677 million in 2005.

Thanks, people always seem to overlook the simple econ of the matter. It is cheaper to build stuff in the US, simply put. But, most likely in a decade or so that will turn and then building will go elsewhere and peeps will wonder what went wrong.

HUH?? Why is almost everything from Clothing to appliances and electronics being manufactured outside the country?? Toyota can build cheaper here because of lower labor costs in the south and no unions. I think you meant Automobiles only --The Foreign makers that manufacture cars here operate more efficiently and have less overhead (Ex: High paid executives and overpaid employees as we do) --Detroit cannot figure how to make cars like them so they just close plants, layoff workers and farm work to Asia and south of the border. Every year the "foreign content" of American nameplates goes up--Chevy is using Chinese built 4 cylinders in some models--lots of electrical and mechanical assemblies are made outside the US also (Cruise controls-radios--gps units--pumps--elec motors--AC compressors--etc..) So that decade is here now--

Nice ride--I really like the light wood trim over the dark ash I got with mine--but I could not find one allready built--the Titanium color is easy to keep clean and the tobacco is just enough to prevent the "coal mine" look of the all black---good luck
