Another X3 Sirius install

Car: X3 2007 4/07 with NAV
Receiver: 65 12 0 416 377
Install Kit: 84 11 0 390 943 (without NAV 84 11 0 390 240)

I installed it last night and it was very easy.
The install kit is a rip-off, this is what is inside:
07 11 9 901 061, 4ea. screws to mount unit
41 35 7 060 601, 1ea. clip nut
51 34 1 950 474, 1ea. bolt
65 12 0 397 740, 1ea. antenna connector

The screws to mount can be purchased at any hardware store,
they are short/stubby so they do not enter the receiver unit very far.
We don't want any shorted circuit boards.

The clip nut and bolt, The bracket that holds the NAV DVD has 3 bolts and 1 nylon insert nut for a total of 4 attachment points. The instructions showed to add these parts to the bottom bolt location for the bracket.
Since there is a clip nut and bolt already there and is already being used by the bracket, these parts are not needed.

Antenna connector, there is only ONE antenna connector there now, on my car it was white, this does not fit into the receiver so you need to remove the white connector and install the curry colored one that is in the kit. I'm sure that is connector can be found online somewhere instead of paying 40 to 50 bucks.

There is also a CDC extension cable in that wire bundle, since I do not have a CD Changer, this connector did not get connected.

Radio, you need to get into the back of the radio to swap white connectors, sqeeze the black lever and rotate it down to remove the connector from the back of the radio, then again sqeeze the lever on the back of the white connector to remove it from the radio block. Locate the other white connector, is was easy to find-hard to remove due to it being wrapped with cloth tape. It has a sticker on it "CD-SDARS", click it into the connector block and then re-install block back into the radio.

How do you get to the radio, Above the radio is your center vent, push down on the top left and right corners of this vent and at the same time pull out. Be careful there is a wire harness and vent cable attached to this assembly. I removed the wire harness and put a towel on the dash to lay the vent on.
You will see 2 philips head screws on each top corner of where the radio is. Remove these screws and it will loosen the bezel that goes around the radio and temp controls. By placing your hands under the temp control panel you will pull up and out. This will remove the temp panel and finally have access to the 2 philips head screws that hold the radio in place.
Remove those 2 screws and the radio will come right out.

Looks like the factory fixed their shark fin problem.

I'm glad to know someone has done this. I have a 07 X3 with Nav, and I recently bought the receiver and the kit from a dealer, but it didn't come with any install instructions. You wouldn't happen to have a PDF of the instructions you could share, would you?

I'm hoping the instructions can tell me where to put it. I looked quickly today to see how to install it, but the Nav unit is in the one place where it looks like it could go.

I found the cables, at least I assume they're the right ones but it did look like there was one extra connector. Is this correct?

Did you get the free year of service? How did this work? Was it connected to your radio number? There was no certificate or anything in my package and I'm wondering if the dealer forgot it.

The receiver mounts under the NAV DVD unit to the framework, you should see 2 holes where screws are inserted in this framework. The other 2 screw holes are on the backside, close to the body of the SAV. That is why you need to remove the bracket from the SAV. There are 4 cables, one is for power, one is for audio/control, one is the antenna connector and the last one, is connected to the satellite receiver IF you have a CD changer in the SAV. IF you DO NOT have a CD changer then DO NOT connect this last cable (this is according to the directions).
By the way, the unit sits in the bracket with the connection points facing the front of the SAV.
It's late, but I just found a picture of the bracket
The photo is up side down, but, you see the slot for the NAV DVD, just above it you see the 2 vertical braces which have a hole in each, those are the mounting points for the receiver.

I activated the receiver on line, from what it looked like was that I had to choose 1 year subscription and that I was going to be charged for it. I called the next morning and was told that I had 1 year free (based on the receiver number) and would not be charged until next year.

Thanks, E46Pilot!

I was able to get instructions from my dealer today too, and they outline basically what you said. I'm a bit confused, though, because the bracket on my car is not the same as the one in the pictures. Is this something I need to buy separately?

I wish I knew there was a shark fin before I installed mine. I did all that but I'm stuck in "acquiring". Apparently is the shark fin not connected properly to the only antenna cable that has the white connector present on my 2007 X3 3.0si sirius wiring bundle. Does any has a copy of the service bulletin that deals with the correction of the shark fin wiring?
