Please help with my seat problem

Does anyone else have a problem with their X3 driver’s seat making a popping sound? (Mine is a 2006) I just can’t figure out where the noise is coming from. The sound is sporadic and I can never seem to replicate the noise on demand. When I accelerate or turn either direction, causing a weight shift I hear a popping sound that comes from the back of the seat.

The dealer has taken the seat out twice looking for a problem and can’t find one. Is there anything in the back of the seat that could come loose? It almost sounds like something is loose between the back seat cushion and the plastic cover. Any ideas??

This is driving me freaking nuts! My 2 year warranty is up in October so I need to ensure it gets fixed under warranty. Please help.

Popping? Hmm, difficult since you said you can't isolate or recreate the sound on demand. Try looking at plastic parts to the seat first as these shifting could cause a 'pop' sound. I would start by having someone sit in the seat and rock around while I watched the lower portion of the seat back for movement.

Mine is MY2006 also and doing the same thing. When I brake or turn it does the 'pop'. But not every time.

I think I have seen a SIB that tells to add a tightening washer under some bolt or nut under the seat. Unfortunately I have not found that document yet - need to search. If anyone has it it would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to recreate the sound or at least a similar sound by lifting the driver seat all the way up. Then stop lifting. Lift again (while it already is all the way up). Stop. Raise again etc. By repeating this every now and then you can hear the sound. Doing this on the passenger front seat is quiet and I cannot get the sound from that seat.

So maybe one of the motors under seat has loosen and can move a couple of millimeters. I think the plastic on the bottom side needs to be removed to expose what is making the sound. How is that removed?

My dealer is going to look at this within a month but I would like to give them some guidance since they will say that they cannot replicate it.

I sure hope someone has an answer because my warranty is up next month. My vehicle has seen the dealer twice for this problem and nothing can be found. I'm sure they think I'm crazy and hearing things.

Look on the lengthy list, found by someone on Bimmerfest.

Has anyone gotten this problem resolved, if yes what was the fix, was there a bulletin?
My 05's driver seat started doing the exact same thing. Quite annoying.
