I believe ours is a Sept or Oct 06 build as we purchased it in Nov 06. Ours was also one of the early ones that had the issue with the Sirius wiring being wrong..... The joys of being an early adopter....

So far the only thing odd with the 525 is that the radio periodically won't work unless you shut the car off let it sit then try it again later. BMW electronics

Have an 07 X3 steptronic. Absolutely no problems. Build date of March 07.

We have only had it for two weeks. Lets hope things stay this way!

Sorry about your bad luck. But if mine works, seems like it is a programming adjustment, and yours should be fixed (fixable).

Third transmission software update "coming in September"

Folks -

I called the BWM dealer to schedule installation of the transmission software update. The Service Rep said he has heard a third patch is coming out at the end of September. He says this one is supposed to be much better than the previous two. He said the first patches really didn't help much, but this one should. This guy has always been very good to work with in the past. So I'm going to hold off until then.

Yes....BMW decided to acknowledge the problem about then, so at the time of production, the cars were updated with the most up-to-date software avalible. Some may slip through, but generally they are o.k. Looks like I will be heading back some time in October for the third update, thanks 2fast.

Here is my story--'07 Si 6sp auto went into limp mode
Dropped off car Sat afternoon--picked up monday afternoon--trans reprogramed to
sib24 07 07. WOW what a difference--the SD is actually fun to use now--upshifts and downshifts as fast as you move the lever--NO HESITATION--before I did not use SD because of erratic shifting--now its great, the car accelerated through the gears like a rocket. --shifts are firm and fast. In "D" mode shifts are smooth (except from 2 to 3 there is a bump)--slight pressure on throttle gets quick downshift--and comming to stop downshifts are now smooth. My car is fun now--
Time will tell if this fix lasts--lets hope they got it right--
Just a note--as good as it is its still not as smooth as the '04 X3 loaner I had---but other than that the '04 was junky compared to the '07. As soon as I pulled out of the dealer the difference in the 2 vehicles was like night and day. Stay tuned Folks--I will keep updating over the next weeks.
