Engine Shut Off

Last night I was braking, somewhat hard because it appeared sooner than I thought but by no means full braking, to make a turn on to a side street when the engine just shut off. It was extremely difficult to make the turn once I lost power steering and almost ran over the curb. I was able to put the car in neutral and restart the engine. It has run fine since then but has anyone else experienced such a thing. I already had an visit scheduled at the stealer to get the routine maint done and attempt to update this horrid transmission software. The X3 is my wife's ride but of course after that she has even more of a reason to take my new 5 with comfort seats away from me....... ah the joys of german software....
