Getting a 2005 x3

Hi guys,

I am new to the forum and I'm about to get a 2005 x3 here in Boston. Found a dealer who's selling me the 3.0 with sport/premium/cold weather package (wanna get navi but there are no cars in the region with both sport pack and navi) for $1200 above invoice. This price, together with a low money factor, makes the lease option pretty attractive. But since the 2006s are just around the corner, you think I should be getting an even lower price on the 05? Is this a good time to get the car or am I better off waiting for the 06s?

One more thing. Will I need winter tires or am I good to go with the stock all-seasons?

Thx.

Welcome and congrats on the new X3. Personally I would be ok with the '05 loaded pkg. I have an '04 2.5 and have a friend that just bought an '05 3.0 and there's a hefty engine diff. Others have posted to the board regarding the '06 features. Even so, the 3.0 engine in there is a proven entity and is plenty (in my opinion) to help the X3 scoot. It also sounds as though you're getting a sweet deal on the rig to boot. Now is as good a time as any to make the move. My local dealers don't discount "old" models as they know it will sell regardless. Still, the lease deals are pretty sweet right now. I can actually get a loaded 3.0 for less than my moderately packaged 2.5. Also, with a lease being all about depreciation, you may find the '05's loose some of their low lease payment with the introduction of the '06 (that's how it was with my '05 325i lease anyway).

As for the all seasons, it depends on your weather. I've got the all seasons in wet weather (I have yet to experience them in snow) and have had good luck so far.

Congratulations and welcome to the board!!

The '06 is supposedly bringing a slight face-lift, color-painted bumpers, and some interior upgrades. If this is important to you, then wait three or four weeks until the '06 comes out. If not, you'll love the '05. My wife has an '05, 3.0L with premium package, pano roof, and auto. The car is VERY agile, and VERY quick. My wife loves it! I really don't think you'll be disappointed either way.

Good luck, keep us posted on what you decide, and take (and share with us) some pics! Again, welcome!

Juan
