Unhappy X3 moonroof leaking

Hi Guys
- I have an X3 04 moonroof been replaced U/W 3 times various problems.
However lately I now have a leaking problem as the passenger side floor floods when it rains (RHD model)

I think the problem is either roof seals or the drain tube is misaligned somehow.

Testing with a cup of water to drain tube area show water on this side coming out of the top of the A pillar and under the car front wheel well.

I am i on the right track? can I remove the A pillar cover and fix ?
If so How???
All the best hope someone can help
Maxey

Though I cannot speak to the remedy for your troubles with your X3, I had a 03 Vw Passat wagon that flooded in the rear floor area every time it rained. The source turned out to be two-fold. First, the intake filter for the ventilation system had been misaligned and was not sealed properly. Second, and after the filter problem was fixed, it was determined that debris that had worked its way into the drain system, possibly as the result of the misaligned filter. The clogged drain caused the rain water to enter the car through the floor vents.

What seems to be the trouble with the moon roof?

I was told by my oh-so reliable indy mechanic that sunroofs are not designed to be waterproof at all but rather they are supposed to leak into a pan of sorts that allows the water that will leak through to pass through the frame of the vehicle and out. At least in the case of my 97 E39 5-series, there are four drain holes at the four corners of the roof. (But you probably know all that...)

I womder if there is a way to snake a wire down the drain hole to relieve any clogs?

Good luck,
D.

PS: How are you liking your X3 aside from the sunroof issue? I would love to see you post a thread with your impressions.

On my 04' one of the tubes was pinched causing water spillage in the rear D pillar - causing water to leak right onto my MKIV!

I had mine replaced under warranty.

Hi Guys Drum and XX3
The X3 is really great no problems really just moon roof issues keep coming up The dealer is good and fixes them but I like to give them the best info as what is the problem--- When I pour water into the drain area on the roof the water comes out of both the drain and the inside of the front pillar around the the top join of the roof lining--- so I think the drain tube isnt blocked but may not fitting properly to the main frame of the moonroof-- I really would like to know how to remove the cover of the side pillar to see if I can fix or see where the leak actually happens any ideas
