No, they can't be adjusted.

You don't list your model year, or package (Sport?) in your profile.

I didn't like the pre-2006 models, I found them harsh. When I drove a 2007 I found it very different, it was transformed. We didn't get the sport model; we drove it and the M-Sport and didn't like the ride as much on either. I find the X3 without the sport package to ride similarly to the X5 with the sport package.

Check your tire pressures, and make sure they are right for the load you are carrying. I keep ours at 30 psi since the vehicle runs close to empty most of the time.

Nope, suspension cannot be adjusted. Pretty much all X3s have a "firm" ride, its just simply a matter of how firm it is. A 2004 or a sport model will have a much harder ride than later years without the sport suspension. However in order to get the X3 to handle as well as it does, the engineers pretty much designed the suspension settings to be on the aggressive side.

It is definitely a firm ride in my 2005 X3 with sport package. Initially, it troubled me that I had bought a less than perfect bimmer ride, but it has grown on me to the point where my next one will have the sport package also.

The stiff ride is most apparent when traveling at low speeds over large or repetitive bumps or road defects. Where possible, I have learned to drive a little faster than normal on such roads and the X3 smooths those better, but stiff is stiff.

Where it pays off is on the highway. I drive my X3 in a way that I would not dream of driving any other SUV I have ever driven before. It is just that sure-footed and tight.

Essentially, the X3 performs as well or better than a 3-series sedan/coupe but with better hauling space/power and a much better and higher view of the road.

Cheers,
D
