Roof rattle at rainy days

At rainy days I have a very irritating rattle in the roof. Seems to be in the sunroof area but it is difficult to locate exactly. I have a 2004 x3 3.0 Diesel Sport. Hope someone can help and asvise how to fix the problem as rainy days are quite normal in Norway!

First, :xoutpost:

Second, your's only rattles on rainy days? The rattle is a known problem with the X3, mine does it too. Run a search and I'm sure you'll find a lot of info.

There is a semi-fix that's been done. It involves putting some felt strips on the trailing edges of the glass panels. I recently had this done at the dealer and it helped dampen the noise a little but it's still there.

Went to the dealership, they repaired it by adding a felt strip tape (or something like that). Since then I have had no problems. I hope this helps.

After I reviewed the service form from the dealer, it simply stated that the roof panels (both) were adjusted and felt tape was installed on the touch points.

This completely resolved the problem we had with our 06 X3 M-sport. Hope this helps.

My Problem is only on rainy days or just after I have washed the car so there is some connection to Water dripping or being drained. I have fuund a lot of info related to general rattle problems but none linked to weather.

I might know what you are talking about. On my '04 X3, sometimes there is a "knocking" noise that periodically appears after a decent rain. What I do is slide open the moonroof while driving, so that the wind can perhaps air out whatever is going on. After a few minutes, I close it, and the sound is gone.

Hi
It seems like we have a similar problem. I will test your idea of opening the sunroof next time but as it may be unpleasant with open sunroofon on a rainy day i hope to find a more permanent fix.
Do anyone know the root cause of this rattling or knocking sound??

Had the same problem

I talked to my service rep he advised the felt and adjustments, that worked for a couple of months so I called my advisor back and he said all they really did was clean my sunroof drains in the back. I cleaned my drains and it still made that noise brought it in and the truck had a faulty check valve in the drain they replaced it and 1 year later I still have not heard that noise.
