Question What kind of phone do I have?

OK, last question for the day. I bought my '04 X3 CPO approx 18 months ago. The car is equipped with phone buttons on the steering wheel (R/T and a speaking face symbol) and the dash ("Info" with a phone handset symbol), there seems to be a microphone in the headliner and the NAV menu includes a phone directory. When I push the Info button the phone dials something but then I get a service error recording from Verizon. The dealer can't tell me anything about this phone--how I can activate it, whether it works on other services (I'm with AT&T right now), etc. And there's nothing in the manuals. Ideally, I convert to BT and use my current phone. The car came with a BT card in the owner's manual but there's no BT code for pairing, which suggests to me that it's not BT equipped. Dealer says I'm looking at something like $800 to go BT. What kind of phone do I have? I've read a number of the BT articles and I'm probably not technically up to doing it myself. I long for a BT set-up that uses the car's phone controls and directory. Thoughts from the board?

I'm no expert but did you actually get a phone. If so I believe you can look at it and tell what kind of phone it is. But if I understand your question correctly I believe Bluetooth will dial stored numbers if the numbers are in the system from a previous user without a physical phone. But if your not paired with your service you will get a service error recording from the previous carrier.

If the car came with a BT card in the owner's manual there should be a code right on the card. Look again.
Here's a picture of an 05 card with the pass code...http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...tooth-ulf.html Not sure if it looks the same though.

Another option is look for the password (= ULF passkey) located on ULF Control Module that is
in the rear of the vehicle.

I have the card in the picture. The spaces for both BT: and PK: are blank. The car also came with a manual entitled "Owner's Manual for full preparation package cellphone". Among the illustrations in the manual is an image of a cell phone docking in the armrest, but my car doesn't have the armrest dock. I can't understand why my dealer can't explain this thing--it just has me stymied.

The BT Assist has a built-in phone that only works with Assist. You don't really have a phone you can use for anything except the emergency calls. You have to buy a cell phone if you want to use one in the car.
