2008 X3 DIY Oil change

I saw Hayaku's detailed info on how to change oil for a 2001 BMW X5 3.0i but my 2008 X3 3.0i seems to require a different oil filter wrench than the 36mm socket he recommends. Are there other differences to the procedure too? And where would one buy the appropriate filter wrench (ex. the dealer!). Thanks in advance for your help.

The procedure is the same, apart from the oil filter cap being different and the lack of a dipstick, meaning that you should figure out how much oil you drained so that you get it close before using the electronic level indicator while topping it off.

Autoparts stores may carry the filter wrench. See this thread:

If it's the 3.0 engine then it takes 7 quarts.
