To be sure, you need a friend or someone to make sure ALL lights are functioning while you hit the brake and/or turn on the lights and foglamps (if equipped).

could be brake light
The way to check the brake light without the assistance of a friend is to start the motor with your foot OFF the brake. Then press the brake pedal. If the warning light comes on, it's a bad brake light.

Same thing happend to me the other day but the light went away. I checked and did not see any lights out. The warning has not come back on since. I am bringing it in for a service in the next few weeks anyway so I will have them check it out.
